Local Activities

There is so much to see in this delightful part of the country: the Matakana coast wine trail (with its many world class wineries) is a must as is the colourful farmers’ market at Matakana village on Saturday mornings – a foodies’ delight. There is fun bike trail from Matakana to Omaha, passing a number of the wineries en route.

The historic village of Puhoi has a fascinating little museum as well as the iconic Puhoi pub frequented by both locals and visitors. .  The local Honey Centre is charming and educational and has its own little café.

During oyster season a visit to The Green Shed of Matakana Oysters on Leigh Road is another must; April - November.

The township of Warkworth is just 10 minutes way with plenty of eateries, including the recently renovated Warkworth Hotel.

There are several beaches just a short drive away for all things to do with watersports.  Also, there are bushwalks, including the Moirs Hill walkway to the charming Pohuehue waterfall.

Not to be missed is the Tawharanui regional park and the marine reserve at Goat Island where you can snorkel or take a glass-bottomed boat tour (25 minutes north east of Warkworth).

Golf can be played at either the Warkworth or Omaha golf courses.
